Home Again...

Yesterday was another warm day. I did the 5.75 mile loop into Skaneateles again. It was sunny and warm, around 50... again hard to believe I was in the Finger Lakes in December.

I took today off as I ran 3 days in a row and was on a train for 6 hours. It feels good to be home!

Its a heat wave

Who knew I'd wish I'd brought running shorts up to Skaneateles for Christmas? But today I did. I got in a long run which felt good. It was about 55 degrees and the sun actually came out. The hills were tough at the end, especially the 5 mile stretch from about mile 5 to 10 which was all a steady uphill. But I made it and got a long run in. Whew... I'm beat.

Merry Christmas

Today I got in my annual Christmas time hill workout. I ran up a 1/4 mile hill with 78 ft increase in elevation 6 times - its a long straight stretch up a big hill next to a dairy farm out in the country... a fun change of scenery. I should learn how to calculate grade, because it felt steep and I'm curious how it compares with the hills at home. I took yesterday off but got in a nice, hilly run on Wednesday.

One thing that is driving me crazy is that I forgot to bring a watch with me up to my parents house for the holidays. I can't remember the last time I ran without one - It's a strange feeling knowing I have no accurate time on any of my runs as I usually compare splits and how I do on these loops from year to year but now I can't. It was especially annoying when I ran what felt like fast on Wednesdsay, but have no way to know if it really was fast...

Now I have to go make some fresh pasta for my mom's annual Birthday Lasagna dinner. MMM mmmm mmmm.

Cold!

Its cold and windy out there! I made it out for a run and felt very tough as there weren't many people in the park and it was cold! Now I'm freezing, but happy I made it out for a run today. Off to Skaneateles tomorrow, where I think I'll be humbled by the much bigger hills. Hopefully I'll get some good running in over the holidays to go with all the eating / relaxing I'll be doing.

Today I got in 3 loops around Prospect Park. The sidewalks are very icy so it was no fun getting to the park, but once I got there, the road was OK most of the way around so I was glad that was the route I chose. I hope the sidewalks clear up soon or I'll get very sick of the park!

Snow!

I thought about going running this morning before the snow started, but I was hungry and it wouldn't have been nearly as fun. Went for a very easy run in the park, stopping to take pics along the way. It was so beautiful and quiet... only saw a couple of people out. The snow stung a little bit, but it was worth it.






7th ave was also really pretty with the snow coming down. I wish they would have turned on the holiday snow flake lights!

Sick!

I have a cold! I was thinking I might be coming down with something on Sunday afternoon, but I guess getting up for a 6am flight Monday morning and then working a full day put me over the edge. Also, I forgot how terrible flying with a cold is... So I'm taking today off from running in hopes of getting lots of sleep and feeling better tomorrow. I hope it works.

Weekend Running

Yesterday I made it to a group run where we went from Grand Army Plaza, across the Brooklyn Bridge, back on the Manhattan Bridge, and then back to GAP. It was a beautiful run with an amazing view of Manhattan from the bridges... A little cold but the views were definitely worth it!

Today B and I went for an "easy run" that turned into a fast run coming home up the hill on Parkside Ave. I felt pretty strong, even after my longish run yesterday. It was another nice day for running so I'm glad I got something in since I'll be taking tomorrow off as I'm off to Michigan on a 6am flight tomorrow.

Easy Day

It was beautiful weather today for my easy day, even if it was a little windy. I got to show B the Van Brunt Promenade which was fun as I usually don't discover new neat things that he doesn't already know about. The old trolley cars creep me out a little but they are neat and it's a great view of the Statue of Liberty. I'll have to bring a camera down there some time...

Day Off...

After checking the weather forecast over and over again, I've decided to take today off. I'm justifying this to myself by saying that I was going to have to take a day off tomorrow anyway as I'm trying not to do too much too fast to stay healthy. So what's the harm in changing it to today as its cold and rainy out, (the worst weather possible for going on an easy run)??

I'll have to get tougher... maybe in January. For now, I guess I will just feel guilty...

Hill Day

I went from running tights and jackets to shorts and a t-shirt today for my run. Weird. Anyway, I'm trying to get back on track by doing a hill workout every other week or so and I was due for one today. I did 6x1/2 mile uphill mostly (first half steeper uphill, second half a bit flatter) trying to go hard the second half of each interval. I surprised myself and went pretty fast, but now I'm exhausted. I'll sure feel this one tomorrow.

Brrrr

I made it out today, even though it was so cold and windy. Who knew running in Brooklyn could be so cold?? I don't think it got above freezing today. Good thing they are calling for 59 on Wednesday...

I did what's becoming a standard loop for me. I went down to Red Hook, ran a little on the track and then down to Union on Van Brunt St, up to the park, and home. It was supposed to be an easy run, but ended up being kind of fast when I checked it. Oops. At least I'm feeling good.

Getting Started

I'm giving this a try in hopes that it will keep me motivated in my training for the Boston Marathon this spring. I'm hoping that keeping track of my progress will make it so I'm more consistent in my training and get me to the starting line well prepared.

So, to start it off, I got in a 10.6 mile, 92 minute run this afternoon. We ran out 5th Ave to 48th Street, and back on Dahill Ave, to the cemetery, and then a loop around the park. After taking a couple of days off, I felt pretty good, especially on the hills at the end. It was cold and windy, good running weather for me.
